Thanks for stopping by and welcome to 1:37 exactly!
My name is Russell and I’ve been a film fan for as long as I can remember and always found that above all else I loved talking movies, all the time! So I wanted to have a place where I could share reviews, news, trailers, and basically host a discussion with other movie fans about the films we all love, so so 1:37 exactly was born!
If you’ve seen a movie that you want to review and share with others then consider this your cordial invitation to have it posted here with fellow film fans.
Send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact me via Twitter @Russell_Oz to discuss further.
So why 1:37 exactly?
What does 1:37 exactly have to do with my lifelong love of film?
When selecting a name for the site I wanted something that summed up my affection for movies, something that was personal to me, and something that could be identified by fellow film fans.
I worked at Blockbuster Video (that’s right, video) for 3.5 years when I was 17 and it was easily the best job that I’ve ever had! It was a true education in movies. I watched more than 1200 films in that time! It was a time where I learnt about different genres, witnessed classic performances for the first time, began an appreciation for the art form and stories explored on film.
I didn’t just learn from watching the films but from the people whom I worked with. My fellow team-mates were all veritable walking encyclopaedias of movie trivia and knowledge. The movie discussions that took place over my time there were some of the greatest that I’ve ever had and I thank them for encouraging my love of watching movies.
There was one movie in particular that we watched together regularly that seemed to reflect the fun that we had in-store whilst working there, and that film was;
Empire Records was the movie that we watched so often that we could quote lines to one another on a daily basis. The film was just so much fun and the relationships and dialogue between the characters really spoke to us.
The story of Empire Records is about a small local music store that is on the verge of being bought out by a big corporate music store chain and what the staff decide to do to prevent that from happening. And yes, I can certainly appreciate the irony of loving Empire Records whilst working for Blockbuster Video, but the film to us was more than that. It was about working in an industry that you loved, and I loved movies.
Given that I learnt more about movies working at Blockbuster Video and Empire Records was THE movie that spoke to me during those years I knew I wanted a website name that honoured that time in my life.
Here’s the quote from the film;
A.J explaining to Joe when he’s going to tell Corey he loves her
A.J: “By 12…12 or 1″
A.J: “By 1:37 exactly Joe”
Joe: “well good luck”
And there you have it…
It’s time for movies!
