22nd January

Greetings all,

Thanks for stopping by and checking out another instalment of the Weekly Slab, a time where I get to look back at some of the interesting stories in the week….that I couldn’t be bothered posting before today. I mean, I’ve saved them all just for today..

Carnage Trailer

It was last Monday that I came across the trailer for Carnage, a film with a killer cast, well-known director, and based on a stage play. It took me by complete surprise because I had never heard of it! Since then, however, I have read a few reviews (go have a look at Anomalous Material for a great review and also over at MyFilmViews for another good read) and overall it’s been mixed which only gets me more interested in seeing it.

With a cast consisting of Jodie Foster, John C Reilly, Kate Winslet, … Read More »

15th January

Greetings and salutations people,

It’s Sunday so it’s time for another Weekly Slab. A time where I get to look back on some of the happenings of the week.

First up is my 15 minutes of fame on Ticker Talks Film

My Collection 10

This week I took part in Raghav Modi’s series My Collection 10 where film lovers around the world share photos of 10 DVD’s that they own with a couple of lines about the films.  I thought that the final article looked great and Raghav did a great job. The hardest part for me was trying to decide on 10 movies that I felt defined me and my movie-watching experiences.

Have a look at the article here, but I’ve also included the DVD titles below;

American History X
Any Given Sunday
Black Rain
Chopper/Two Hands
Collateral
Falling Down
Play it to the Bone
Point Break
The Godfather

I’ve just realised that I … Read More »

5th January

Welcome to Sunday, people!

It is Sunday which means that it’s time to kick back, relax, and have a look at some of this week’s news which caught my eye….

First up is something which is less movie related and a little more movie star related, Julianne Moore to be specific.

Julianne Moore as Famous Works of Art

I have always thought the world of Julianne Moore. I think that she is tremendously talented, from her Oscar nominated roles on the big screen to her small screen cameo on 30 Rock, I think she delivers exceptional work in pretty much everything she does. Apparently Moore completed a photo shoot for Harper’s Bazaar awhile back and the photos recently hit Tumblr.

This is just a sample of the photos, pretty cool huh?

I think it’s worth having a look, the photos look great and well…I could look … Read More »

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2012!

Aside from Christmas, New Year’s Eve/Day is my favourite time of the year!

It’s a time of possibilities. It’s a clean slate for everyone. It’s the time where you can decide to do whatever you want, put your mind to it, and set out to do it. Now I am not saying that we can actually achieve everything that we set out to do, but the first day of a brand new year certainly makes us believe it, and what’s what I find just wonderful.

I’ve never been a big believer in New Year’s Resolutions because I never stick to them and they usually consist of some grand notion which is just not possible to continue to achieve. We’ve all either made such resolutions or perhaps know of people who have, things such as “I will give … Read More »

25th December

Merry Christmas All!

Today’s Weekly Slab is my first (hopefully yearly) Christmas post.

I honestly just want to take a moment and wish every single person reading this post a very very happy Christmas Day today. I hope that whatever you are doing you manage to make it an enjoyable day and that you are able to take a moment and appreciate just what a great day it is.

If you are working, I wish you the very best of luck. The rest of us who have the day off thank you for your effort and hope that you manage to spend some time with friends and family afterwards. As someone who used to work in a 24/7 call centre I remember working on public holidays so I know how you feel, just stay calm and try to think of the … Read More »

18th December

Welcome to another edition of the Weekly Slab!

I have to start off this week by saying that it’s going to be a longer one than last week, where nothing really happened, but definitely not the case this week!

So here are all the stories, new articles, and trailers which caught my attention and have been deemed worthy to receive a place on my site. (“deemed worthy” by me. If it doesn’t interest me, I won’t spend time on it.)

Rock of Ages Trailer

Earlier this week, the first trailer for the musical turned film Rock of Ages was released to some pretty poor reviews and tweets. There were some pretty reliable pretty whom I follow on Twitter and they were saying that it was bad and kind of hard to sit through, but I always want to make up my own mind and … Read More »

11th December

It’s Sunday so that can only mean that its time for another round of the Weekly Slab!

Unfortunately this week there wasn’t a lot a grabbed my fancy at all, there was only one story which I was interested in and that was the new poster for…

The Amazing Spider-Man Poster

The poster looks pretty sweet! It’s dark and a little broody and I love the effect of spider shadow. Given that the Sam Raimi version used a lot of bright recognisable colours in his posters it’s nice to see that the reboot when in a different direction.

One question that is raised about the poster is “The Untold Story” tagline. Since it hasn’t been a long time since we last saw Spider-Man on the big screen it can pretty much be assumed that movie-going audiences around the world are fairly familiar with the … Read More »

4th December

Is it Sunday already?

Well it must be time for another Weekly Slab update! The time where I get to look back at the tweets and movie news which grabbed my attention enough to be bookmarked and saved for the slab!

So kicking us off this week is a story which broke my heart a little bit and still makes me a little sad thinking about it.

‘Jaws’ ride at Universal Studios is closing!

Yes, according to Attractions Magazine the very last time that the ‘Jaws’ ride will be running at Universal Studios is 9pm January 2nd 2012. So next month will be the last time that the shark will be popping out of the water and scaring all the tourists on the backlot tram!

The girl and I visited Universal Studios last year and we went on the Jaws ride and pretty much made … Read More »

27th November

Thanks for checking out the first Weekly Slab!

The whole point of the Weekly Slab is just to post a collection of things I have bookmarked from earlier in the week all in a single location. The reasons behind doing so generally stems from a lack of time so let’s hope that this works out a little better for me.

One final thing before I get started, this Weekly Slab will NEVER cover  or talk about EVERYTHING that has happened during the week in the world of movies. There are plenty of big and small informative and really interesting websites that do that (have a look at my Blog Roll if interested) but here I will only talk about what I am interested in. Why? Because it’s my site. Pure and simple.

So what am I going to cover for my first weekly … Read More »

From the Blog!

1:37 exactly is a website designed to share movie reviews, trailers, and assorted bits n pieces that I find interesting, and hopefully some of you too. It is NOT a website for all official and up to date movie news and reviews. Trust me, there are PLENTY of great movie blogs and official websites that cover everything. In fact, if you ask me I will provide a list of them to you! Hopefully there is something on the site that you find interested and want to engage in a discussion on, if not, thanks for stopping by. Cheers, @Russell_Oz
