'The Adventures of Tintin' Review

Posted by Russell_Oz in Movie Reviews. 10 comments

27th December

The Adventures of Tintin is a step forward in motion-capture film-making and a faithful adaptation of the popular comic books and will be enjoyed by children and teenagers all over the world.

That’s about all the nice things that I can say about the movie. As an adult, I found it far too childish and uninteresting to keep engaged in the story and after the 30 minute mark I was ready to make my way towards to the exit.

I am a little conflicted about writing this review for 2 main reasons. The first is that I grew up loving the comic books and would eagerly go to the library and check out a new book every couple of days. After finishing the 7 or 8 books that the library had I would go back and read them again. This makes me think that … Read More »

Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln

1st December

Today’s the day that the “Movie Interwebs” (the place inhabited by all who love film) went into meltdown with the first released photo of Daniel Day-Lewis in make-up as Abraham Lincoln. The end result? He looks great!

The photo was obviously taken between scenes as Day-Lewis was having a bite to eat. However I have a theory that this is in fact a scene from the film where we get to see Abraham Lincoln kicking back on the weekend in jeans and sneakers , having a bite to eat at a restaurant, leaving the suit in the closet, and maybe going to catch a movie… only time will tell if I am correct…

The film, Lincoln, is already generating a lot of buzz simply because of the people involved in making it plus the subject matter. It’s almost like we’re witnessing a perfect … Read More »

'Lincoln' – Steven Spielberg Next Project

28th June

After conquering pretty much everything else, Steven Spielberg has turned his attention to bringing the story of Abraham Lincoln and his struggle to guide the North to victory during the Civil War in a new film titled, Lincoln.

Cast as the United States’ 16th President is, probably the single greatest actor working today, Daniel Day-Lewis. After his blistering Oscar winning performance as Daniel Plainview in Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood, and a follow up performance as Guido Contini in Rob Marshall’s Nine, Mr Day-Lewis is perfectly cast as the man who is widely regarded as the country’s greatest influence.

In the very important supporting roles of Mary Todd and Robert Todd Lincoln are Sally Field and Joseph Gordon-Levitt respectively. Sally Field, who has been known lately for her TV work (the recently cancelled Brothers & Sisters) returns to the big screen in … Read More »

'The Adventures of Tintin' Poster and Trailer

The poster and first look trailer has been released for the very anticipated 3D motion-capture event of the year, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn.

Directed by Steven Spielberg and co-written by Edgar Wright, the story follows the adventures of Tintin and his friends as they discover directions to a sunken ship commanded by Capt. Haddock’s ancestor and go off on a treasure hunt.

I remember borrowing the Tintin books from my library when I was much younger and lving the story, the adventure, the gruffness of Captain Haddock, and the humour of Thomson and Thomson, it was pure escapsim and adventure.

After watching the trailer below, I reserve judgement.

At first glance it has a definite “cartoon-ey” feel to it which I don’t especially like HOWEVER I thought the same thing when I watched the trailer for … Read More »
