Welcome back to another LET’S TALK discussion, an opportunity to share thoughts, opinions, quotes and all things related on our selected movie of the week. The discussion is open for 7 days in order to allow everyone around the world to voice their thoughts.

I have been extremely fortunate to have some of my favourite movie gurus on Twitter hosting the last 3 weeks of the Let’s Talk discussions which have just been all kinds of interesting, insightful, and fun. I learnt a whole lot of the discussions generated, so if you missed the last few weeks, here’s a brief recap;

First @MelBWrites hosted The Avengers discussion and shared her passion for all thing Avengers related! Followed by @InTheFrame1 who hosted The Dark Knight discussion and educated us all on why Chris Nolan is a deadset legend! And then last week we had @CriminalMovies … Read More »

‘Gangster Squad’ Trailer

Is it wrong to want the gangsters to win?

Not that I have anything against the Gangster Squad but seriously Sean Penn is a stick of dynamite with a lit fuse, how can he not win??

The official trailer for Ruben Fleischer’s the Gangster Squad was released a few days ago and it looks pretty sweet. It’s set in a time where the gangsters were bad so the cops needed to be worse.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer and written by Will Beall and based on the series of L.A Times articles “Tales From the Gangster Squad” by Paul Lieberman, the film tells the story of Police Office John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) who has been tasked with taking down the notorious crime boss Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn). In order to do this, O’Mara needs good men to help him, and that’s where Sgt Jerry Wooters (Ryan … Read More »

'Gangster Squad' – First Official Pic

Thanks to EW.com the first official pic from Ruben Fleischer’s Gangster Squad has been released and it looks….yeah ok.

Is it just me or does the image look a little photoshopped? Like the background has just been digitally inserted. Now, maybe it’s just me but it really distracts me from admiring the whole picture. It’s entirely possible that the background HAS been digitally inserted but, ideally, I shouldn’t be able to tell…

The goofy grin on Penn’s face just makes him look like an idiot and Brolin’s menacing scowl just kind of makes him seem a tad heavy-handed.

Is it just me? Does it actually look good?

‘Gangster Squad’ Updates

23rd November

As you probably know I am really looking forward to Gangster Squad (if not, some of my other articles are here) just because I love a good gangster flick and this one looks like it’s shaping up to be something awesome!

What do we know so far?

The film is based on a series of 8 articles written for the LA Times by Paul Lieberman that focussed on the creation of a special Police unit called the Gangster Squad whose objective was to keep the city free of the East Coast Mafia in the 1940′s and 50′s.

Who’s in it?

It’s pretty much a veritable who’s who of Hollywood, check it;

Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte, Giovanni Ribisi, Robert Patrick, Michael Pena, and Anthony Mackie.

Sean Penn is playing real-life gangster Mickey Cohen and Ryan Gosling is Sgt Jerry Wooters, the cop in … Read More »

‘The Gangster Squad’ nabs Robert Patrick

Well, it looks like the Ruben Fleischer directed film The Gangster Squad has made up for the loss of Bryan Cranston…the addition of the T-1000 himself, Robert Patrick.

Empire reports today that Robert Patrick is in final negotiations to join the cast of The Gangster Squad in the role that was recently going to be played by Bryan Cranston until he had to pull out due to scheduling conflicts. The role is LAPD officer Max Kennard, a Texan officer who’s laid back attitude to life disguises his hard working life.

As awesome is Bryan Cranston is, Robert Patrick is a character actor who can hold his own against others on screen. Just look at his dramatic performances in Cop Land and TV’s The Sopranos.

Are we excited?

Emma Stone in ‘Gangster Squad’?

It looks like Emma Stone’s career is set to soar with her being offered the lead female role in Ruben Fleischer’s The Gangster Squad, starring Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, and Josh Brolin.

According to Reuters the role Ms Stone has been offered is Jean, a woman who is romantically entangled with two men on opposite sides of the law. The two men are Mickey Cohen(Sean Penn) and “the police officer who is chasing him down”. Now that doesn’t exactly give me a whole lot to go on but I have to assume it’s Ryan Gosling or Josh Brolin.

Emma Stone, soon to be seen in The Amazing Spider-Man as Gwen Stacy, has made quite a name for herself in a relatively short amount of time since Superbad, and I am sure that it won’t stop here.

It is NOT a website for all official and up to date movie news and reviews. Trust me, there are PLENTY of great movie blogs and official websites that cover everything. In fact, if you ask me I will provide a list of them to you! Hopefully there is something on the site that you find interested and want to engage in a discussion on, if not, thanks for stopping by.
