Guest Review: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
1st April
Written by: Rainbow
So, those that know me well know that I don’t spend a lot of my spare time recounting movies. There are but few exceptions; The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is one.
I found myself in a cinema surrounded by those lost in time, individuals that put their teeth in and adorned in their Sunday-best for their outing of the week. It was nice albeit a little disconcerting to the one of two in the cinema with a smartphone!
Anyway I digress.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel has to be one of the most enjoyable movies I have seen in a long time. I found myself lost in the moment on many occasions and at least once felt tears roll down my cheeks as I was transported into the lives of 7 English seniors en route to India to live out their … Read More »
'Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol' Review
26th December
Guest Writer: Matthew Mupfanochiya
After walking into the sunset at the end of MI:3 with wife in tow I thought we were all done with Ethan Hunt.
Summary:
Ethan is given a mission to hunt down documents that will identify a nuclear scientist for what he really is, a nuclear mad man with a vision for a toasty planet earth.
Mission fails and Ethan wakes up in a Russian hospital under the care of the world’s sloppiest KGB agent.
Hunt escapes to find out more bad news, his team is being blamed for an act of terror and they’ve been disavowed, in fact all of the Impossible Missions Force (IMF) has been dissolved.
Leaving Hunt and his new team with two new missions save the world from nuclear mad man, and clear their names.
My View:
This latest instalment into what looked like a dead series is a … Read More »

George Carlin…It's Bad For Ya!
5th December
Growing up in the 90′s I think that my first introduction to George Carlin was a Rufus in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, sure not a great way to be introduced to one of the greatest comedic talents ever, but it was a start. It allowed me to connect his name to a face so when, years later, someone would say “Oh George Carlin did a bit on that” I would reply with “The guy who played Rufus?!”
So after being told that he was not only a comedic genius but an outspoken force of nature who changed the comedy landscape for every comedian who came after him for years to come, I knew I needed to learn more.
And that need to learn more continues today. I have watched his many stand up performances, HBO specials, and recordings, and I still … Read More »

'Warrior' Review
30th November
Guest Writer: Matthew Mupfanochiya
Summary:
This is a movie that uses the world surrounding the rising sport UFC as the source of action and the backdrop to tell the story of three men: Estranged brothers Tom and Brendan Conlon (Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton) and their father, Paddy (Nick Nolte). Tom, a marine, has come home to train for a spot in Sparta, a winner-takes-all MMA tournament. Tom is willing to forget, but not forgive his father’s dark past in exchange for his help in training. Paddy, a recovering alcoholic, leaps at the opportunity to re-connect with his son, despite his son’s terms of a trainer and fighter relationship, and no more.
Things are not much better for Paddy with his other son (Brendan) who lives across the state. Brendan is a retired UFC fighter and current high school teacher. Brendan and his young family are … Read More »

‘The Ides of March’ Review
30th November
Guest Writer: Matthew Mupfanochiya
Summary:
The movie’s title, “The Ides of March” refers to a specific date, March 15, which is the day upon which the events of this film focus. In this story, March 15 is the date of the Ohio Primary, when Governor Mike Morris (George Clooney) hopes to vanquish his opponent and claim the Democratic nomination allowing him to run for the presidential seat.
In his camp are his campaign manager, Paul (Philip Seymour Hoffman), and his chief strategist, Stephen (Ryan Gosling). Stephen is a man at the height of his powers despite his youth. Stephen’s talents are coveted by his opponent, namely Duffy (Paul Giamatti). As with any political contest especially one run in the convoluted American system; this is not all about winning the race for Ohio. Obtaining the endorsement of Senator Thompson (Jeffrey Wright), a primary drop-out with … Read More »
