'Drive' Review – The Definitive Perspective

…and weep
Drive reminds us of a certain age and shows the newer cinema goer that acting, thank god is still in vogue and that over bearing and ridiculous scripts are not needed to, pardon the pun, drive a story.
I came across this little masterpiece I have to admit completely by accident. Going to the movies alas is not a frequent pleasure and when I get the chance I don’t want to be flippant about my choices. So after a look at last weekend’s papers a very positive review of Drive caught my eye. The rest as they say….
Now I’m not going to spell out plot devices or give away spoilers, it’s your job to see and make up your own minds but what I will do I give you a little insight why a film … Read More »

'Drive' Review – 2 out of 5

After hearing nothing but positive reviews for Drive, I went into the cinema with high expectations. I wasn’t just disappointed, I was crushed.
How could I not like a film that has been universally acclaimed?
This is the film that won Nicolas Winding Refn the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival and where the film itself was nominated for the Palm d’Or. It currently stands at #137 in IMDb’s Top 250 films of all time. It has a current rating of 92% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes!
Maybe it’s just me. Maybe I am the only one on the planet who just didn’t like it. I spent the night revisiting the film in my head and kept trying to look for something that I missed.
But in the end, I have to stand by my initial thoughts, Drive was over-hyped, boring, overly violent, and just didn’t … Read More »

Christina Hendricks as Wonder Woman?
31st July
Yes we all know that the David E Kelley TV version of Wonder Woman starring Adrianne Palicki didn’t get picked up and from what we’ve all heard it wasn’t too crash hot…so it probably worked out for the best.
So where does that leave the Wonder Woman character? Will she ever make it to the big or small screen? Or is she just one of the characters that is just a little too difficult to give the full film treatment?
Well according to director Nicholas Winding Refn, whose latest work Drive, hits cinemas shortly, said that he would basically cast Christina Hendricks as Wonder Woman in a heartbeat!
He was quoted in NYMag.com, in a rather great article, that if he was given the green light to make the film he would be turning to everybody’s favourite Mad Men actress (and co-star in Drive) Christina Hendricks … Read More »
