‘End of Watch’ Poster & Trailer
10th June
The poster for the David Ayer directed police drama, End of Watch, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Pena, and Anna Kendrick has been released and it looks pretty good.
I’m not exactly sure of what the effect is called but I do like the “sun-streaked” effect on the sides of the posters, it reminds me of a similar effect used on the poster for Woody Harrelson corrupt cop drama, Rampart. I don’t know what it is about that effect that makes you think of cops-on-the-edge but it does.
If you haven’t seen the trailer for End of Watch before then here it is for your viewing pleasure. Now just a word of warning, I loved this trailer and I am probably gonna blog about it more…so if you’re one of those who hate it or have carried on about it on other sites … Read More »
‘Gangster Squad’ Trailer
13th May
Is it wrong to want the gangsters to win?
Not that I have anything against the Gangster Squad but seriously Sean Penn is a stick of dynamite with a lit fuse, how can he not win??
The official trailer for Ruben Fleischer’s the Gangster Squad was released a few days ago and it looks pretty sweet. It’s set in a time where the gangsters were bad so the cops needed to be worse.
Directed by Ruben Fleischer and written by Will Beall and based on the series of L.A Times articles “Tales From the Gangster Squad” by Paul Lieberman, the film tells the story of Police Office John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) who has been tasked with taking down the notorious crime boss Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn). In order to do this, O’Mara needs good men to help him, and that’s where Sgt Jerry Wooters (Ryan … Read More »
‘End of Watch’ Trailer
6th May
Thanks to one of my favourite movie sites out there, Anomalous Material, I watched a trailer today which just blew my mind and got me all kinds of pumped to watch this movie! In fact, I liked it so much that I just wanted to have it on my site because I know those of you who read my site will probably dig it too.
The movie I’m talking about is End of Watch, a police action/drama starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena as two long time cops and best friends who are the city’s finest at what they do but find themselves targeted by a cartel after a bust gone wrong.
How awesome does the trailer look???
I hope that this is going to be more like Training Day and less like Harsh Times because it’s been awhile since we have a … Read More »
'Gangster Squad' Updates
23rd November
As you probably know I am really looking forward to Gangster Squad (if not, some of my other articles are here) just because I love a good gangster flick and this one looks like it’s shaping up to be something awesome!
What do we know so far?
The film is based on a series of 8 articles written for the LA Times by Paul Lieberman that focussed on the creation of a special Police unit called the Gangster Squad whose objective was to keep the city free of the East Coast Mafia in the 1940′s and 50′s.
Who’s in it?
It’s pretty much a veritable who’s who of Hollywood, check it;
Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte, Giovanni Ribisi, Robert Patrick, Michael Pena, and Anthony Mackie.
Sean Penn is playing real-life gangster Mickey Cohen and Ryan Gosling is Sgt Jerry Wooters, the cop in … Read More »

'The Gangster Squad' Casting News
11th June

The news today is that Anthony Mackie has officially joined the cast of The Gangster Squad!
It’s been rumoured for awhile that Mr Mackie would be joining the cast but it’s been officially confirmed by /film!
Anthony Mackie, last seen in The Adjustment Bureau, will be playing Rocky Washington, an ex-cop and first African-American LAPD lieutenant who is recruited to work within the Gangster Squad.
I’ve got to say that Mr Mackie will probably have a leg up on everyone else in this film because he spent the majority of The Adjustment Bureau running around wearing a fedora, so that’s at least one thing he doesn’t have to worry about…
So the official lineup for this film is as follows; Sean Penn as Mickey Cohen, Ryan Gosling as Sgt Jerry Wooters, Josh Brolin as John O’Mara, Michael Pena as Navidad Ramirez, and now Anthony Mackie as … Read More »

Michael Pena Joins 'The Gangster Squad'
9th June

According to THR, The Gangster Squad has enlisted the services of Michael Pena, who will be playing a police officer of Mexican heritage who is eager to prove himself to the squad.
I remember Michael Pena cast as the “everyday dad stuck in an incredible situation and who would do anything for his son” role in Battle: LA. It was a bad role. It was a bad character. He was stuck playing a cliche. At the time though I couldn’t tell if it was Mr Pena’s acting ability or the film that he was in.
My question was answered when I watched the The Lincoln Lawyer where Mr Pena played a relatively small but important role as Jesus Martinez. I thought he was great, played a character who needed intensity, and he delivered. More importantly he managed to play opposite … Read More »
