’21 Jump Street’ Review
13th March
Written by: Matthew Mupfanochiya
Summary:
Jonah Hill’s Schmidt and Channing Tatum’s Jenko meet in high school where they face very different challenges. Schmidt cannot fit in anywhere and faces major humiliation when he asks the “hot” girl out to prom. Jenko’s problems are much more serious he can’t seem to pass a class.
Fast forward a few years and add some decent haircuts, Schmidt and Jenko meet at police academy where they look beyond school social structures and help each other to pass the academy. Our two coppers are let loose on the general public to the nation’s detriment. After botching up a park drug bust the bumbling pair are sent to the Jump Street program where they will be placed in deep cover as high school students with the aim of finding the source and supply of a new drug (HFS)

‘Neighborhood Watch’ Trailer
5th March
Wow! FINALLY a movie starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, and John Hill!
Could this be the team-up of the year? Does this mean that the planets have aligned to result in the comedy of the year?
I doubt it.
Neighborhood Watch is about a group of suburban dads who want to spend a little less time with their families decide to create a neighborhood watch group that will provide them with that very excuse to go and hang out together and act tough…until they discover a plot to destroy the planet.
Now the trailer itself doesn’t give away too much but it gives you a fair enough idea of what you’re in store for.
I think that the last time I watched a “comedy” about dissatisfied family men who were depressed about their lot in life was Grown Ups. A movie so bad that it made me … Read More »

’21 Jump Street’ – Why bother…?
9th November
The entire trailer is 2 minutes and 34 seconds long and yet it managed to feel like 8 minutes! I lasted about 1 minute 15 seconds before I started doing something else with it running in the background.
Aren’t trailers supposed to grab your attention and make you want to part with your hard-earned cash and see it at the cinema? All this has managed to do is lower my respect for Jonah Hill, given I was a huge fan after Get Him to the Greek, but no longer.
This just looks back, really really bad.
Who is this film aimed at?
Anyone who is old enough to remember watching the original series won’t be interested in watching a bastardisation of their youth, taking what is remembered as an 80′s classic and turning into a yet another “comedy” for today’s youth. And just on … Read More »

‘Moneyball’ Trailer
17th June
Written by: Stoic Taco
Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill team up together to redefine baseball history in Moneyball.
The film focuses on the story of Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane’s successful attempt to put together a baseball club on a budget by employing computer-generated analysis to draft his players.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiAHlZVgXjk
The film is based on a true story and is directed by Bennett Miller (Capote) and co-written by Aaron Sorkin.
I can tell you right now that the simple fact that Aaron Sorkin was involved in some small part means that I will be buying a ticket! I think the man does miracles with dialogue so I have high hopes already.
Let’s hope that the actual film lives up to the promise of the trailer.
Moneyball is due for a release in the US on September 23rd 2011.

‘Megamind’ Review
23rd May
Written by: Stoic Taco
** I generally don’t include spoilers in my reviews however I do discuss some plot points below. So perhaps watch the film first before reading **
What happens if the evil super villain finally wins?
What do you do once you achieve your master plan? Do bad guys really need good guys? What do you do if start getting bored?
These are the themes explored the Dreamworks animated feature, Megamind, starring the voices of Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, and David Cross.
It was Pixar’s animated classic The Incredibles that combined new and interesting ideas that hadn’t been previously seen on-screen and combined it with the humdrum day-to-day experiences that we could all identify with. The result was an animated feature that was fresh and fun for the whole family.
It is obvious that Megamind was influenced by and … Read More »
