‘The Hunger Games’ Review
28th March
I went into The Hunger Games with very little information. I had no idea that it was based on a very popular set of books nor had I even seen a trailer for the film. I went into the movie knowing one thing, it was set in a world where an annual death-match between teenagers is a televised event.
So as someone who had no preconceived ideas about what to expect, I am very happy to report that I really enjoyed myself and thought that The Hunger Games delivered an exciting, tense, and dramatic film aimed at the young-adult market.
For those of you, like myself, who haven’t read the books, let me give you a brief overview of the story.
Set in a Dystopian future run by the Capitol, where the country of Panem is divided into districts and control is maintained … Read More »

X-Men: First Class Review – “Classy Origin Story”
25th June

It can’t be easy to be given a chance to reinvigorate a waning franchise and ask the audience to take a gamble and trust your decisions to cast new actors into existing and well-known roles and at the same time remain within the realm of believability.
Matthew Vaughn has not only accepted that challenge and exceeded expectations but also managed to change audience perception of the X-Men series, which lost a lot of credibility and popularity after the disastrously appalling X-Men: The Last Stand.
X-Men: First Class is an origin story of how Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr met, worked together, and eventually become Professor X and Magneto. It is set during the 1960′s and a lot of the film takes place during the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis which adds a layer of reality within the realm … Read More »

More X-men really?? Even after the joke that was X-Men 1.5 and the tragedy that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine… We’ve got More X-men? But in this case not all is lost as we also have Matthew Vaughn the classy director who brought us Kick-Ass.
Summary
Professor X has always seamed to me – to be a cashed up hippie with telepathic powers and Magneto has always appeared to be a selfish dude who can’t let go of the past – but I have always wondered how these two diametrically opposed characters were once friends and this is the question X-Men: First Class attempts to answer.
We open with a scene from the first Brian Singer helmed X-Men movie as we meet Eric Lehnsherr as a boy in a Jewish concentration camp we then move to an established estate where we meet a … Read More »
