How can one trailer make you wish you lived during the 1930′s Depression-era just so you could get your hands on illegal hooch?

Actually I’m assuming that it’s not just me who feels this way…either way the trailer for Lawless delivers the goods and looks to be a very solid film with an exceptional cast (minus the LaBeouf exception).

Lawless is based on the historical novel The Wettest County in the World by Matt Bondurant (grandson to one of main characters) and tells the story of three brothers living in rural Virginia who made a living selling bootleg moonshine during prohibition. The film explores the brothers relationships, the moonshine operation, and the authorities who want a cut of the profitable business.

The film has a very strong line up of talented actors, and Shia LaBeouf. Ok I know it seems like I am unnecessarily … Read More »

Last week we wrote about how excited we were about the new film The Wettest County in the World, a period drama from director John Hillcoat and starring Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, and Gary Oldman.

This week comes the news that the Weinstein Co has recently acquired the film for the sum of in between $4 and $5 million dollars at  this year’s Cannes Film Festival, according to the L.A Times.

It looks like this Prohibition set drama, adapted from the book by Matt Bondurant written about his family, is only going from strength to strength and gathering more interest. Certainly the acquisition by the Weinstein Co is going to generate more interest about a film that could be one of this years stand outs.

The new film from John Hillcoat, The Wettest County in the World, is currently making the rounds in Cannes and is garnering some very critical interest from studios seeking US distribution rights, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The film centres on 3 brothers running a massive illegal bootlegging business out of Southern Virginia during Prohibition, and who must seek out revenge when their operation is threatened.

Starring Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman , Guy Pearce, and adapted for the screen by Nick Cave based on the novel by Matt Bondurant.

To give you an idea of what to expect from the characters in this film, the following is a quote from Matt Bondurant’s website (www.mattbondurant.com) when asked if he had a favourite relative;

“Yeah, that would be my grand-uncle Forrest. In the 1920′s he had his throat cut from … Read More »
