The first official trailer for Dredd has arrived and it definitely looks a helluva lot better than the original version (which shall not be named). It’s gritty, action-packed, and looks like it should restore some credibility to the name of Judge Dredd.

Directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point) and starring Karl Urban (Star Trek) and Lena Headey (TV’s Game of Thrones), Dredd tells the story of a city besieged by a new designer drug and it’s up to the men and women of the Hall of Justice to bring order back to the city. Some will be judged, some will be measured, and some will be executed!

If you wanted to restore credibility to a kick-ass character who was utterly destroyed by Sylvester Stallone, what would be the first step? Create a killer poster which proves that the new film is as far from the last film as possible!

Directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point) with a script by Alex Garland and starring everyone’s favourite sci-fi doctor, Karl Urban (Star Trek) as Judge Dredd, Olivia Thirlby (The Darkest Hour) as Judge Anderson, and Lena Headey (TV’s Game of Thrones).

Dredd is scheduled for release on the following dates: (Correct as of today)

Australia: 25th October 2012, USA: 21st September 2012, and UK: 7th September 2012

Lionsgate has released the first official image of Karl Urban as Judge Dredd in the soon-to-be-released film Dredd.

You’ve got to admit that Karl Urban looks good in the outfit!

The last time we saw the the Judge he was played by Sylvester Stallone in the woeful 1995 film co-starring Rob Schneider. I’ve seen that version, I think a total of once, half the first time and half the second time. It was just too cheesey and boring to watch in one sitting. Let’s hope that this new version is better.

This latest version stars Karl Urban, Lena Headey, Domhnall Gleeson, and directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point).

Dredd is currently scheduled for a UK release date 1st December 2011, no word yet on an Australian release.
