'Detachment' Trailer

7th January

From director Tony Kaye (American History X *) and starring Adrien Brody, Bryan Cranston, Christina Hendricks, James Caan, Blythe Danner, Lucy Liu, and Marcia Gay Harden, comes a new movie about life is like for teachers, administrators, and students seen through the eyes of a substitute teacher.

This trailer intrigues me. It looks like it’s going to tread the old familiar ground of teacher overcombing obstacles in their high school, connecting with students, clashing with administrators, all the while tugging at the heart strings…but doesn’t quite get there. Just when you think you know where it’s going it stops short, getting me a little more interested.

The cast is impressive and I would like to believe that they all saw something in the script other than a paycheck, but I guess that only time will tell. I also really liked the look of … Read More »

'Drive' Review – The Definitive Perspective

…and weep

Drive reminds us of a certain age and shows the newer cinema goer that acting, thank god is still in vogue and that over bearing and ridiculous scripts are not needed to, pardon the pun, drive a story.

I came across this little masterpiece I have to admit completely by accident. Going to the movies alas is not a frequent pleasure and when I get the chance I don’t want to be flippant about my choices.  So after a look at last weekend’s papers a very positive review of Drive caught my eye.  The rest as they say….

Now I’m not going to spell out plot devices or give away spoilers, it’s your job to see and make up your own minds but what I will do I give you a little insight why a film … Read More »

'Drive' Review – 2 out of 5

4th November

After hearing nothing but positive reviews for Drive, I went into the cinema with high expectations.  I wasn’t just disappointed, I was crushed.

How could I not like a film that has been universally acclaimed?

This is the film that won Nicolas Winding Refn the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival and where the film itself was nominated for the Palm d’Or. It currently stands at #137 in IMDb’s Top 250 films of all time. It has a current rating of 92% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes!

Maybe it’s just me. Maybe I am the only one on the planet who just didn’t like it. I spent the night revisiting the film in my head and kept trying to look for something that I missed.

But in the end, I have to stand by my initial thoughts, Drive was over-hyped, boring, overly violent, and just didn’t … Read More »

Official ‘Drive’ Poster

3rd August

Thanks to the always reliable and interesting /Film, here’s the first official poster from Drive.

So for all you Ryan Gosling fans out there then I would say that this poster is pretty much aimed at you! Whilst it doesn’t really give away anything and I have to say that I am not a huge fan of lettering either, it is still the first official poster.

I hope that there are others that will be released soon because this still remains one of the must see films of this year, it looks brilliant!

On the /Film site you’ll also find a couple of other signed posters showing a couple of other characters so check it out if you’re keen, worth having a look…however still the same lettering!

Drive stars Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Christina Hendricks, Ron Perlman, and Albert Brooks.

Drive is scheduled … Read More »

Christina Hendricks as Wonder Woman?

Posted by Russell_Oz in Superhero Stuff. 2 comments

31st July

Yes we all know that the David E Kelley TV version of Wonder Woman starring Adrianne Palicki didn’t get picked up and from what we’ve all heard it wasn’t too crash hot…so it probably worked out for the best.

So where does that leave the Wonder Woman character? Will she ever make it to the big or small screen? Or is she just one of the characters that is just a little too difficult to give the full film treatment?

Well according to director Nicholas Winding Refn, whose latest work Drive, hits cinemas shortly, said that he would basically cast Christina Hendricks as Wonder Woman in a heartbeat!

He was quoted in NYMag.com, in a rather great article, that if he was given the green light to make the film he would be turning to everybody’s favourite Mad Men actress (and co-star in Drive) Christina Hendricks … Read More »

Drive – Ryan Gosling Leads an All Star Cast

Have you heard about Drive?

From what I heard and read about this film I think that it could be this year’s sleeper hit. I say that because there’s been a lot of press about Pirates 4, Green Lantern, Captain America, and Cowboys & Aliens that I think that this film might be the one that blows everyone away and has them thinking “where did this come from?”

Ryan Gosling (Blue Valentine) stars as a Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver and discovers that a contract has been placed on him after a job gone wrong.

Mr Gosling is joined by a true all-star cast, have a look at these names;

Carey Mulligan (An Education), Christina Hendricks (TV’s Mad Men), Ron Perlman (TV’s Sons of Anarchy), Albert Brooks (Finding Nemo), Bryan Cranston (Total Recall)

Based on this casting and the basic story pretty … Read More »

In fact, if you ask me I will provide a list of them to you! Hopefully there is something on the site that you find interested and want to engage in a discussion on, if not, thanks for stopping by.
