‘The Adventures of Tintin’ Review – A Different View
28th December
Guest Writer: @So’sMyWife
Going to the movies these days is fraught with danger and sadly too often disappointment. Over the years I have seen adaptations, good and bad of beloved comic book heroes that have left me speechless, alas more than not for the wrong reasons. Whether it was The Caped Crusader, The Man of Steel or any of the hundreds of others, as kids we loved them, in our own way own a piece of them and demand that whoever’s turn it is to put them on the big screen they do them justice.
Herge’s Adventures of Tintin is no exception.
Now those who know me know that I am of the opinion that Steven Spielberg generally can do no wrong, he has of course but let’s be honest, like a solar eclipse it’s rather rare. So when … Read More »

‘The Adventures of Tintin’ Review
27th December
The Adventures of Tintin is a step forward in motion-capture film-making and a faithful adaptation of the popular comic books and will be enjoyed by children and teenagers all over the world.
That’s about all the nice things that I can say about the movie. As an adult, I found it far too childish and uninteresting to keep engaged in the story and after the 30 minute mark I was ready to make my way towards to the exit.
I am a little conflicted about writing this review for 2 main reasons. The first is that I grew up loving the comic books and would eagerly go to the library and check out a new book every couple of days. After finishing the 7 or 8 books that the library had I would go back and read them again. This makes me think that … Read More »

‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ Review
22nd December
** There may be some possible/potential spoilers, so perhaps watch the movie first **
Today I finally got around to watching Rise of the Planet of the Apes after a very very long wait. I am very happy to say that I loved it! It was definitely worth the wait and I can now see why people thought it was one of the year’s best!
It’s been awhile since I’ve watched a movie that has made me want to write a review for it, but the moment I finished watching it I had 2 choices, either watch it again or write a review. The latter won out.
So where to start, Rise is a prequel for the Planet of the Apes films and tells the story of how the apes (well technically an assortment of primates) became super intelligent and rose up under … Read More »

‘The Adventures of Tintin’ Poster and Trailer
18th May
Written by Stoic Taco
The poster and first look trailer has been released for the very anticipated 3D motion-capture event of the year, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn.
Directed by Steven Spielberg and co-written by Edgar Wright, the story follows the adventures of Tintin and his friends as they discover directions to a sunken ship commanded by Capt. Haddock’s ancestor and go off on a treasure hunt.
I remember borrowing the Tintin books from my library when I was much younger and lving the story, the adventure, the gruffness of Captain Haddock, and the humour of Thomson and Thomson, it was pure escapsim and adventure.
After watching the trailer below, I reserve judgement.
At first glance it has a definite “cartoon-ey” feel to it which I don’t especially like HOWEVER I thought the same thing when I watched the trailer for … Read More »

Rise of the Planet of the Apes Trailer
14th April
All Hail Caesar!
The first trailer from Rise of the Planet of the Apes has just been released and I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised.
Directed by Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist) and written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (The Relic) based upon the original novel by Pierre Boulle. Starring James Franco (127 Hours) as Will Rodman and Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) as Caesar, this prequel charts the uprising of the apes caused by genetic engineering experiments and set in modern say San Francisco.
At first when I heard that they were adding a prequel to the Planet of the Apes series I have to say that it did nothing for me, at all. Don’t get me wrong I was, and still am, a big fan of the original 5 films, Planet of the Apes (1968), Beneath … Read More »
