When you first hear the name Looper it doesn’t exactly grab you.

In fact, if you didn’t know any better you could quite easily tune out and miss the news from what is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing films currently in production.

Looper is directed by Rian Johnson, whose previous films include The Brothers Bloom and Brick, and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt (the lead in Brick), action man extraordinaire Bruce Willis, and Emily Blunt.

Now here comes the really cool part, the storyline.

In the near future time travel is possible but highly illegal. It’s also a future where trying to dispose of a body is extremely difficult. This is where a team of assassins called Loopers come in. They kidnap their victim, send him back 30 years to a waiting Looper who then kills him…in the past! They will technically kill someone who doesn’t exist yet! All is going well until one day a victim is sent back to a Looper…only to discover that it’s his future self who has been sent back to be killed. And he’s not going quietly.

How insane does that sound? Are you intrigued? I most certainly am!!

So Joseph Gordon-Levitt is playing the Looper in question who is confronted with his future self played action man Bruce Willis.

Looper is scheduled for a release in September 2012.
